For a Dawning
Open sunrise in my soul;
to rise, to rise! To take
the skies on unfurled wings
and wander free above the slumb'ring world,
awake to dawn's possibilities,
to all day brings, to bright,
to sapphire air and life
alight with newness trembling
--oh, teach my soul to sing!
Arise, arise, burn fierce my sun
and shine on vistas far, on journeys
new-begun, on waking dreams
that pierce the veil of sorrow gray,
parting a way through shivering shadows,
cherishing warmth amid the dark
--a fire of hope unquenchable.
Shine full, sunrise on my soul.
