I deemed I was alone,
But now from every side I hear the sound
Of weeping—mourners gather round:
My grief is linked with endless griefs unknown

My sorrow is part of these.
O God, amid the darkness round thy throne
We fall upon our knees:
Hear thou the prayer,—hear thou the wordless moan!
