'Tis said the Chinamen at last
Are turning Christian. If it's true,
Their meek, submissive days are past,
And " Hoodlums " yet may get their due.

For, if our virtues they embrace,
And our sweet gospel come to know,
Brickbats will prove their Christian grace,
And broken heads their virtue show.
