The statue of the the Prodigal Son casts a long shadow across the pews
But the light shining through the confession window is blinding
Painting a pattern of crosses against my skin
(Bless me Father, for I have sinned)

I wonder if I will burn
If I sit here long enough
(It has been too long since my last confession)

I wonder if the symbol of Christ will steep some holiness into my skin
If it will purge my sins from my body in a way the priest never could, although he tried, I know he tried
(I am sorry for these and all the sins of my past life)

I wonder if it will make me just a little more worthy of His love
Of the light I have heard of
But have never seen
(Today, I looked upon a body such as my own with lust)

(And in that moment I did not love You above all else)
