O specter, who steals amidst the shadows
in the purple October night,
I lay here barely breathing at your sight,
have you come to grace my presence again?

In summer's warm heart and All Hallows Eve,
in winter's spindly, black bony trees,
it is you that I see,
I hope you passed peacefully.

O specter, who stands over me as I sleep,
you dwell here as if in flesh and blood,
what secrets do you keep?
Are you a wandering wraith sage?

The amber glow of the Jack O' Lanterns
reaches the eaves,
my own youth has faded away like
swirling dry leaves,
the frost now chills the jug of
apple cider on the porch,
O specter, who steals amidst the shadows
in the purple October night,
when the brisk wind whispers
autumn's grand arrival,
I believe I will now await morning's first light.
