Every evening as the sun goes down
all I see is you rising all alone,
through those clouds in the darkness of the night
my dear silver moon may you shine your light.

Though lonesome you always seem to be
though you hide behind clouds, from what I see,
though you wax and wane in your mother’s arms
you come up again with all your charms.

The waves rush to the shore at your behest
but with every nightfall you shine without rest
in the stillness of the night you ride through the heavens
and without your shining light, darkness descends.

Many a time you’ve held me under your spell
many a story that I yearn to tell
many a time you’ve seen me dragged down
many a dream washed ashore from this town.

Though soon you’ll be gone, may you shine
upon everyone of us, on every hill we climb
though at times you get red, though at times you get blue
silver moon, silver moon, may your love shine through.
