A man in a field, some farmer,
has just buried his last child.
The cows and mares bellow at
a coming storm, restless in their
minds. A petticoated princess forever
asleep appears to pray.
Ducks and geese come to her
grave, remembering how she saved Old Joe
from Thanksgiving Slaughter.
The man looks forward to those he still has
and weeps for his girl
the only one to see beyond the farm
and wish for more than enough.
