A Song by Paddy
Since I've got my liberty I'll bid farwell to sea,
On board a man of war or privateering O;
With my share of each prize, a sea captain I'll despise,
For a land life is far more endearing O.
No more they'll call me, snip, when I swab on board of ship,
The boatswain for to please, or Scotch Sandy O;
I will laugh at all my foes, in a new suit of cloaths,
When I swagger like the Marquiss of Granby O.
I'll drop the Taylor trade, and fam'd authors I will read,
Such as Dean Swift or Tristram Shandy O;
In neat boots of cordovan, an umbrella in my han',
'Mongst the ladies I will shine clear as noon day O.
O then no duelist dare assay to crow his crest,
For erect upon my honour I will stand ay O
O then fam'd Pat O' Brain; like a monarch he will reign,
And all for the glory of Ireland ay O,
My mother often sings, I'm sprung of Irish Kings,
Who reign'd o'er the north in Londonderry O.
So I need not be afraid for to court a noble maid,
Even the lord lieutenant's daughter I may marry O.
On board a man of war or privateering O;
With my share of each prize, a sea captain I'll despise,
For a land life is far more endearing O.
No more they'll call me, snip, when I swab on board of ship,
The boatswain for to please, or Scotch Sandy O;
I will laugh at all my foes, in a new suit of cloaths,
When I swagger like the Marquiss of Granby O.
I'll drop the Taylor trade, and fam'd authors I will read,
Such as Dean Swift or Tristram Shandy O;
