Stranded ashore from the sea
. . . stranded ashore from the sea.
And in Salmydessos, may the screw-haired men,
the Thracians, receive their guest most kindly, naked.
There let him taste all bitterness fulfilled,
chew evil, bite the bread of slavery.
Doglike, face downwards, may he lie in scum
and after, mess of seaweed cover him.
May his teeth rattle. Rigid from the cold
let him sprawl, helpless, on the scouring shore.
This I would like to see become of him,
this man who broke his given word to me,
this man who wronged me, trod upon his oath,
my erstwhile comrade.
