The Voyage

I stood and leant upon the mast
And counted every wave.
Farewell, my beautiful Fatherland!
Fast sails my bark so brave!

My fair Love's house, I passed it by,
The window-panes were glaring;
I gazed my eyes out of my head,
But none made sign of caring.

O tears, come not into mine eyes,
Lest ye should dim their seeing!
My sick heart, break not in my breast
With woe too vast for being!
