An illusion of the “i love you’s”
you are left longing for,
and the missing silhouette
of your lover’s gentle embrace.

A hand left unheld,
and hips not pulled into one another -
and so lover leaves his lover,
lonely and untouched.

I have spent my days
begging to be shed of this philosophy
taught to me by my mother:

You are to lead a life
lived for the pursuit of
a young man’s love and happiness.

But. When love tries to say:
“i will pull away and simultaneously stay”,
it is nearly impossible to try
