how many open doors are now locked
for the first time?

my baby sister cried because
she felt unsafe
in her own home

how can one dead man
have so much power?

This is a very strong subject that should make for a lot of horror and emotion. I think it would be more effective if it included more imagery and the emotions/experiences of specific people, rather than straightforward generalities. The bit about the baby sister crying is the most effective part--maybe build on that, have the speaker imagining their family going through what the victims did?
