A Balancing Act

At 23 I realize,
probably later than most
but maybe earlier than a few,

Life is not black and white,
not right and wrong,
not good and evil,
not easy and hard.

Life is gray and colorful,
rules on top of nonsense,
a comedic tragedy,
a tragic comedy,
simple at its core yet complex in all the details.

Life is a tight rope
and I’m the tightrope walker,
trying to balance
work with rest,
freedom with responsibility,
self-lessness with self-fishness,
assertiveness with humility,
seriousness with carefreeness.

Although I'll probably never get to the other side of the rope,
I’m grateful for the chance to try.
