Basketball with Dad

On the blacktop, scuffed courts, waxed courts or anywhere with a basketball goal,

my dad taught me so much when it comes to ball.

Pops mainly trained me to have more patience than Noah making the ark.

Don't force the shot, take your time son.

Look up when you dribble, keep your eyes on the defender’s waist.

Line your arm up with the goal.

Pace yourself before the crossover.

Son patience is a virtue, take your time.

MJ wasn't the best in one day, neither will you be.

Start out close Jai if you can’t make a shot 5 feet away

what makes you think you can make one 15 feet away son?

When you go for a shot, flick your wrist like you're reaching in a cookie jar.

You gotta be as calm as Kobe at the freethrow

but have heart like Michael with the flu.

Play tough like Shaq and quick like Iverson

you got it Jai this just takes some time.

Look son, you can't just give up because you're having trouble with your mid-range today,

get some water and run it back from the top.

There are still times that my pops takes me back to the basics

so I can remain grounded like the Spalding goal in the concrete,

the same goal that saw me miss wide open layups when dad wasn't looking.
