California Wildfires

Impossible comprehension,
a tribute
to the flashing abyss.

Lightning,
like celestial veins—
another element entirely.

Thunder,
like an applause.
Praise to the performance.

Then flames.
Otherworldly colors
lining silhouetted mountains;
a performance of dominance.

No applause
for this act.
Only sirens.

No longer a flashing sky,
but lights of emergency.

Abandoned by the sky.
Threatened by the air.
A testimony

to the blood of the heavens
meeting
the body of the earth.

Those veins bled out.
