The Girl on the Sideline

She’s always been the one who steps aside,
Just steps on over so you can pass her by.
Always there, not far away.
Waiting for a lucky day.
There’s always going to be someone else.
She’s just the trophy, collecting dust on an empty shelf.
There when you need her, gone when you don’t.
Never really finding a place to call home.
She knows her place, does what she can.
When all she really wants is to hold your hand.
The side lines are lonely, and her laughter is gone.
The chill in the air, cuts her straight to the bone.
She looks around once more;
Searching for something worth fighting for.
As she starts to walk away, she pauses briefly to say:
“All I wanted was a moment. All I needed was a chance. All I loved walked away, without a single word to say.”
