Late Night Rambling

by V

It’s just another life we don’t care to know.
Someone’s rejection, that was put on our show.
We pay them with the opinion of
A stranger they never wanted to know.
And we blame them for wanting to feel that They’re worth the notice.

They just put in another day’s work and still
They gotta pay up and answer for it.

It’s just another child,
On a different street.
In a fatherless home,
In a motherless sleep.
Laughter has never danced in their eyes
Because Hope has already left the crib.
Young, but experienced enough to know
It’ll take a disaster for anyone to notice.

Only three years old,
But still they gotta stand up and pay for it.

It’s just another day,
Alone in a silent ache,
Watching while the time says, “wait”.
Holding it together for those who need you,
Trying to live up to those who believe in you,
Afraid that you can’t, not that you won’t,
Hoping that every step isn’t losing the you you Wanted to know.
And why won’t anyone ever get close enough To notice?

You’re already thirty, and what do you
Have to show for it?

It’s when they’re alone that these cry the Hardest,
It’s when nobody answers that their silence is Loudest.
Tired of listening to the echo of their own Words,
Tired of of their demands for justice that never Get heard.
Tired of breaking and never getting mended,
They cry aloud to God, “Haven’t you noticed?”

It’s when you realize that talent is random,
And success is nothing but a fandom,
That we’ll all stand side by side,
And even then could we look each other in the Eyes?
People are alive but injured,
Having paid the curse for existence,
They all stand bleeding in front of you,
Or haven’t you noticed?
