Leave You With A Smile

The cat sat on the fence, all alone
He once sat on a throne
As though he ruled it all
But now he sat there longing for last fall
For he meet what felt like the one
But now his affair was done
So he sat there dreaming
For just one more moment, his heart screaming
For my heart was once in pain
And if I could, I’d tell him:
For those moments were not in vain
For this pain will only last a while
And soon, the memories will leave you with a smile.

This seems more like a poem someone would write in their personal journal to comfort themself after the loss of a beloved cat than one that would be published in a magazine for others to read, but it feels heartfelt and like it would be very effective for that purpose. (I say that as a crazy cat lady!)
