When Children Go

When children go
And leave the house
As quiet as snow falling,
When cards and popcorn
Are the only things that
Entertain them,
When little ones learn
How to take pictures on phones
And climb on their grandmother’s backs,
Ride scooters from bedroom to bedroom,
When children scream at each other
And husbands lose their minds,
It all makes sense.
We crave the calm after the storm,
The two-a.m. clean up parties,
The tired looks in our eyes as we watch
Children sleep in front of the christmas tree,
Waiting for something great to happen.
When children go,
Will we hold on to these memories?
