181st Weekly Poetry Contest winner: The Final Word

by Rie Sheridan Rose

I wish I could have talked to you again…

but I’d lost track of you over the years.

I was afraid to search the internet…

fearing all I would find was an obituary.

So I lost the chance to say how much

you taught me about love and life.

How the sound of your laugh

still comes back to me in dreams.

I should have been braver…

now I can only feel the loss.

And whisper only goodbye.
