190th Weekly Poetry Contest winner: Hearts Apart

by Iwuagwu_Ikechukwu

Our hands remained interlocked
Until it was time to let go
Tears incarcerated; my face, its rolling self mocked
Memories flash; upon me a sour cargo
The stretcher's trolley, rolling in desperation
Soon swallowed by the theatre's entrance
My heart thumping as she ticks away in motion
I stand and sit repeatedly, sliding sooner into a trance
In gloomy curiosity I find us both in smiles
Happy as a sand boy while we play
Hope wakes me after a dreamy tour of miles
From the fields upon which we lay
Tap tap came the nurse calling
Come see her, up and fit as a fiddle; I wake smiling
