Seventeen

by Awolff

Seventeen, young and sweet
Should be having the time of your life.
Why is this period one of such strife?
Seventeen, that time just squished between.
No longer an innocent child, but still merely a teen.

Sometimes they say it’s time to grow up
Get a job, a car, and a degree.
But can you ever really grow up,
If you’re never allowed that forbidden glee.
Left wondering what it would feel like to be free.

Oh, wouldn’t it be nice if we were older
If only we didn’t have to wait so long.
Cause those wings can’t spread in the cage,
The decisions limited to age.

You know it seems the more we think about it
It only makes it worse to live without it.
Just got to wait and pray until true
Then there won’t be a thing that we can’t do.
