A tiny flicker of silver light danced into an open window.
It jumped over a bed and teased the child sleeping there.
“Ugh, I won't get up, it's too early,” the child mumbled.
The light leapt out through the spring leaves and back again,
Skipped round the room and across the pillow with a wink.
“Leave me alone, it's still night,” the boy yawned.
“Sshh, sshhh,” murmured the trees, “He's sleepy today.”
The little beam grew bolder and danced brighter, higher.
The south wind wandered in and brought an early robins' tune.
“Wake up, wake up, no time to lose” she trilled.
The child rolled up in a ball and stuck his fingers in his eyes.
The sun grabbed the earth and spun it round as she climbed,
A shower of golden rays came blazing through the window.
The child opened one eye from the covers, and it was morning!
