The Adjuster’s Anecdote

“‘I’m afraid the claim is denied.
Your assets are found wanting
Friends and family—both nine-to-five
Years ahead now red with nothing

After all, it will do no good to plead
Nor to blame apathy or corruption
Because you were never supposed to need
And a closed system must eschew disruption.’

The Claimant, naturally, did die
A tragedy, none could doubt
So it’s not like we wouldn’t cry
With shrugged shoulders and palms spread out”
