Hangover
Sunday morning hangover
my intoxication not alcohol-induced
instead the buzz of 191 proof experience
a two-day binge of creativity
new places, new faces, new inspiration
been a long time since i partied that hard
normally, i just sit at home on the weekend
ho-hum, hum-drum
imbibing on the same old thoughts
they say it's a bad sign
when you sit around and think alone
pathetic how easily we become addicted
to the stale spirits of passivity
tired of my morbid behavior
I went out and found a new bar
the joint was jumping with mental electricity
now here was a place I could get my think on!
the patrons were a friendly bunch
Greeting me with glee
and everyone so giving
"Here, let me buy you another think!"
Everyone had their own favorite
I had to give them a try
My head was soon spinning
from the shots of poetry I was pounding
the effects on my soul
nothing short of astounding
The end of the idea orgy
came for too soon I must confess
And as I left, all said to me
"You must certainly join us again!"
And in spite of my Sunday morning hangover
I can't wait to think again!
