A Past That Haunts

A past that I left behind,
Like an unburnt pyre,
Haunts me and pulls me back,
With claws that would kill.

An obstacle it is at times so odd,
And to feel so sore,
Like a bird that has parted with its wings,
Or a lion wounded by its prey,
It does no good, it does no good.

Thou shall ne'er look behind,
For the past has plans,
To steal your present,
And to disfigure your future.

Burn the past and let those ashes,
Forever remind you,
That the past,
Has lessons as well.
