Rich Memories
Oh, how we suffered
Under the hands of poverty
Who stripped us of everything
Including our dinner
It crept in like a shadow
Though black, but with a bright glow
Coursed through our fragile bodies
Shone through our emanciated bones
Bled through our cracked lips
Flooded our weakly built homes
Its burning light
Tortured our stomach linings
Ripped our cheap clothings
Till we had nothing left to fight
Instead, filled us up with intense hunger
Eating us up inside out
We could do nothing but watch
As it fed on our juices
While saliva dropped from our mouths
It fed on our minds
Subjected us to its will
We were so poor,
Our imaginations could not afford to be rich
