Ritual Rhymes (A Sonnet)

Umbilical leash detached in ripeness
This, the voice of yesteryears echoes
Today a chant of liveliness
Her visceral thump follows
Hair like hyacinths
Spread o'er silver seas
Darling of the saints
Pleasantness as the humming of bees
A new chapter today ajar
Like the mouth on a yawning quest
Negative tides, may divine solace mar
And its sail be met with roaring tempest
On Thespis' alter, our forged bond by providence
Oh maiden dance to the ritual of independence
