To See God

humanity, via many avenues
longingly seeks the face of God
and more than a visage
they seek the attributes
to which they have ascribed the holder
knowledge and compassion
peace and salvation
i understand the quest
to have answers for the agony of our hearts
such great lengths
i cannot explain God
cannot define the mystery
but i wonder if perhaps the answers
hide before us in plain sight
teachers who offer wisdom
friends who tend us with compassion
a peacemaker who calms our heart
a soulmate who provides us salvation
and in the faces of these
perhaps we have seen God
