The Sorcerer’s Last Words

by Trenna

I swear that dragon was a vegan!
And, princesses, well they just taste real bad.
If you think a princess tastes like chicken
Then it wasn’t a real princess that you had.

I heard your princess craved adventure.
That she was tired of her tiara and her gown.
She longed to live a life free from censure
And the ogling of every pair of eyes in town.

Well, maybe when your princess saw my dragon,
She saw her chance--or true love--who can say?
Then she chose to up and hitch her wagon
To his scaly green star and fly away.

Magic is strange, but love is stranger.
Come on, guys, you’ve got to know it’s true.
She’s probably not even in any danger.
But you’ll do what you feel you’ve got to do.

With luck one day you’ll find your princess
And my dragon safe and smiling in the sun.
You’ll have to go to her and confess
The terrible injustice that you’ve done.

Your celebrations will turn tragic.
Your guilt and your remorse will not abate.
Then you’ll regret your distrust of magic,
But for you, and more for me, it’ll be too late.
