Sunday Football

by Grant

Hurray! Sunday is Here

The entertainment for today is football

But first we must go to church.

The sermon goes extra long today

I squirm and stretch my arms waiting

for the pastor to say “let’s pray.”

After church we drive to El Charro

The old leather benches squeak as we sit

and the tables shimmer with the glass covers.

I order lunch special number eight

Two tacos and a cheese quesadilla.

The food arrives and I dig in

I have to eat quickly if we are going to get home on time

I hope the Steelers win

Then I can wear my Steelers jersey at school

Go! it’s almost one. We have to get home in

time to watch the kickoff

Steelers are on!

The game is about to begin

Eleven players line up

Each player jumps and shakes their limbs in anticipation

I plop onto the couch and sigh

As it is ten times more comfortable than church chairs

I hope I will be able to stay here all day

The kicker

Lowers his hand and runs forward

Eager to start the game

Running he slams his foot into the ball

Thud!

Jumping just a little

Then Steadying himself

And the game has begun

Fans lucky enough to watch the game from Heinz Field

Cheer and yell to support their team
