There towers a noble castle
High on the hill above;
There dwell three fair young ladies
Who have given me proofs of love.
On Saturday Marion kissed me,
On Sunday Elizabeth,
And on Monday fair Kunigunde
Hugged me almost to death.
My three fair friends of the castle
Gave on Tuesday a brilliant fête;
From the country round came flocking
Gentle folks little and great.
But I was not invited,
And that was a blunder, my dears;
All the spiteful old maids and tabbies
Perceived the omission—with jeers.
