71. An Epitaph: In Death United
W HOE'ER thou art who dost for parents pray
A late and happy end, one moment stay
And read the record on this tomb engraved,
Wherein Rabirius in death has laid
His father and his mother. They together
Lived sixty years through fair and stormy weather,
And then together died without regret,
While on one pyre their bodies both were set.
And yet Rabirius unconsoled doth mourn
As though from him they were untimely torn.
A late and happy end, one moment stay
And read the record on this tomb engraved,
Wherein Rabirius in death has laid
His father and his mother. They together
Lived sixty years through fair and stormy weather,
And then together died without regret,
While on one pyre their bodies both were set.
And yet Rabirius unconsoled doth mourn
As though from him they were untimely torn.
