Absent Friends

In vain anigh the windows high
The lady doctors wait,
The parents of the world relapse
Into the savage state.
The books remain unedited
The books remain unbound
While I in Ludgate Circus
Lie groaning on the ground.
Lay by, lay by, my waistcoat pink,
My coat of satin blue,
They're going from Victoria,
My visions always do.
I never loved a dear gazelle
To charm me with its glance
It packed its bag, that quadruped
And went away to France.
