Away, companions, with the knots Of the Friend's tress make ye!
Away, companions, with the knots Of the Friend's tress make ye!
Goodly's the night; so, long withal Its goodliness make ye!
The privy court of ease is this, Where friends assembled are;
Chant W'an yekad and close the door Against access make ye!
Great, great, indeed, the diff'rence is 'Twixt lover and belov'd:
When the Friend useth coyness, use Of humbleness make ye!
Rebeck and harp proclaim aloud, " Open the ear of sense
" Unto the message of the folk Of inwardness make ye! "
O'er whosoe'er in this world-house With love's unvivified,
Prayer for the dead, (to be alive Though he profess,) make ye!
The first monition of the Sheikh Of the assembly was,
" Yourselves secure from comrades mean And meritless make ye! "
By the Friend's life I swear that grief Shall never rend your veil,
So but the Maker's grace your trust, In your distress, make ye.
If Hafiz seek a boon of you, Consignment of the wight
To the Friend's heart-consoling lip, For his largesse, make ye.
