The Bank of the Magnolias

WANG : The tops of the hibiscus trees
are in flower,
On the mountains
the vermilion petals blaze
Silent is the hut beside the torrent:
there is no one at home.
By thousands and thousands the flowers
open and fall.

PEI : On the green bank in springtime,
when the grass is thick,
The princely descendants
are already glad to stay.
How much the more, if all around
the bright-colored flowering
magnolias mingle
