To David Earle of Exeter after the death of William Ruin-house

To David Earle of Exeter after the death of William Ruin-house

Let Burley Sluggish Deities ore whom
Time and Neglect soe triumpht now become
Awfull again nor longer seem to dwell
'Neath th'dainger of some tottering pinnekell
Awake ye Lares and Confessing stile
Your selves the Traytors to th'once Glorious Pile
Changd into Ruines: and sithence gon is He
Who was the Patron build up Soveraignty
In the survivor, for know conquests all
Are not Entaild to names whilst Howses fall
But that ther may a David be to sway
The Scepter when a Saul is fall'n away
And to Orecome decayes not by a ston
Out of a sling, but their conjunction
More firmely ciminted that Passers bye
May timely wittnes that recovery
And thus restord at length to what ye were
Shine and protect the noble Governer—
