Drafts for a Quatrain
The wind of dawning riffles the young furze;
Night narrows to a solitary star;
wakes and wanly shudders, having slept;
veils a vigil sacred yet obscene;
muffles moonlight where the sands are dank;
glitters where the banquet lanterns glowed;
By placid depths mysteriously stirs
haunted
troubled
teeming
turbid
The noon-expanding nenuphar.
The moon-ensorcelled nympholept.
The Proust-anointed neurasthene.
The snailly-gliding nudibranch.
The guest-eructed nesselrode.
