Fragment on Hearing the Account of Mrs Ramseys Death

Yes she was sweet and elegant and fair
All that we know of excellent or rare
Was found at once in her enlighten'd mind
Wise as descreet and dutiful as kind.
Her parents joy her hubands valued crown
And lov'd by all to whom her worth was known
The world possessing could the world despise
Too good for earth an offering for the skys.
Ah—when such virtue sinks into the grave,
And fervent love can boast no power to save,
What heart so selfish stoic or severe,
As to withhold the sympathizing tear,
Ramsey these eyes so long inured to flow,
Now pay, their tribute to your tender woe,
And my poor heart that daily grief endures,
Forgets its own to mingle sighs with yours.
