The Fulfilment of Life

Brick by brick, and block by block,
Through love and labor, grief and strife,
Stone on stone is laid, and thus
We build the edifice of Life.

Troubles meantime will appear
Cluttering our weary ways,
Endless duties, never done,
Will fill up our dreary days.

But some day we find ourselves —
Rising from the dismal murk,
Leaving heartaches far behind —
Prepared to do our chosen work.
