Grannie's Birthday

1

Happy Returns! the children say
Grannie is Sixty-three today
Her hair is white and her eyes are bleared
But she is'nt the sort that grows a beard!
You ca'nt expect to be " Fair to see"
When you reach the age of 63 .

2

She lives by herself on her own small hoard
She asks no tendance, so no one's bored
The young are busy at work and play
Grannie might find herself in the way
So she trots down hill with a lonely glee
Thank Heaven, I'm hale at 63.

3

The day must come when her legs will fail
When a cough will lurk in the winter gale
When Grannie must sit in the ingle nook
With a bit of work, and a bit of book
But she hopes she never a fash may be
E'en if she lives to 73 !
