How durste a selye Paynter undertake
To represent my Mistres lovely cheare
When all the heavens with one assent dyd make
That peece devyne to stand without a peare
How coulde he well with cleare unbleamysht sighte
Take perfect viewe of her fayre pearcinge eyes
Or of her cheeks the cullore painte aryghte
Vermylyan lyke, as when the Sonne doth rise
What lyqued golde coul[d]e he with pensyle use
To portracte out, her amber Crysped heare
What lynniaments off favor myght he chuse
To forme a face that yeldes both hope and feare
Her porte her grace and shape to drawe aryght
Lett love hymselfe ymploye his Cheefeste arte
Yet not in tables nor in cullors slyghte
But in the depth of my moste loyall harte.
