I Said

I said, I can't, you know!
He joined his hands together.
Burden of the world, I said.
His tears flowed.

Make no request of me,
he said, alas.
At the foot of my throne
the world will finally tremble.

I said, No, oh no!
He said, Sir!
The debt of pain you bear
is the peak of your greatness.

What business is it of yours? I said
and much vexed, turned away.
Tear shining in the infinite,
life throbbing inside death.

Fire kindling in the ashes,
he said, Abandoning you,
the world, still vexed, has lost
the universe-sustaining answer.

I said then, turning, What
can I expect to get?
He said, Just see
the life-throb of the Infinite.

But why for me destruction
and the torment of creation?
Your bliss is for another life
the land called heaven.
