If life last me and the tavern I once more attain another

If life last me and the tavern I once more attain another
Season, thing save toper service Ne'er to do I'll deign another.

Fair befall that day of gladness When I go with eyes a-weeping,
Once more on the tavern-threshold Casting tearful rain another!

In this folk's no understanding; Grant me, Lord, the means to carry
This my jewel to another Buyer less ungain, another!

Though the Friend depart and leave me, Ancient friendship's dues ignoring,
God forbid that I should follow In another's train, another!

If the course of heav'n's revolving Azure sphere to me be gracious,
Her my hand shall in another Compass-round regain, another,

Fain my soul is to salvation, If her wanton eye and cutpurse
Tress would suffer me another Time to break the chain, another.

See, with drum and pipe the minstrels Every tide our hoarded secret
Publish at another market-Head and yet again another!

Still for anguish I bemoan me; Since that Fortune, every moment,
At my wounded bosom launcheth Yet another pain, another.

Yet, quoth I, “In this affliction Not alone immerged is Hafiz;
“Gone astray is many another In this desert plain, another.”
