Inspiration
The Rowan County teachers
Convened the other day,
In the quiet town of Morehead
Some fifteen miles away.
I thought I would attend,
As the weather was so fine,
And watch our modern teachers
As they formed into line.
A flag was proudly flying,
From the courthouse where we met,
And the lovely decorations,
I never shall forget.
A splendid friendly spirit
Seemed to permeate the throng,
And we were lost in rapture,
Each time they sang a song.
The object of the meeting
As you perhaps might know,
Was not for friendly greeting,
But strive to wiser grow.
So speeches and discussions,
And many helpful things,
Were given to the teachers,
Which made the mind take wings.
Then came the happy climax,
Like wavelets of the sea,
When there appeared a message
Most wonderful to me.
The finest demonstration
That I have ever seen
Was given by a lady—
Whose name—? She's kin of Queen.
With wondrous skill and knowledge
Always within her reach,
She showed the listening teachers
Just how they ought to teach.
And when she had concluded,
We weren't the least bit tired,
And wished she would continue
For we were quite inspired.
March on, march on, great teacher!
The good that you can do
Can ne'er be estimated,
'Till you reach heaven's blue.
No matter where you wander,
In city, vale or town,
The kind wish of the writer
Is bright stars for your crown.
