It Is Not Well for Man to Be Alone

She was my sister through the hours that fly
Till then . . .

Nothing I said: only in every vein
My father Adam moved in ancient might
And on my body, bone and blood and brain
Came the dark strength of that primeval might

When sex was cried aloud to weed and worm
In seven thunders from the hidden throne
The night when germ cried darkly unto germ
“It is not well for man to be alone.”
