To Julius Martiall

To Julius Martiall

Things that would frame a Life to pleas
Most wellcome Martiall are these
A free left means not gained through paines
A field that yeilds increase of graines
A chimny warme throughout, and mind
Averse to sutes, to rest enclind
Wit in abundance health noe less
To cherish innocencies dress
Frends of the same ranke, home bred fare
A Table not by art made rare
Noe night in wine drownd but soe free
As that noe cares with it agree
Noe bed of sorrow yet wheron
Chastety spreads pavillion
And ther such slumber may import
The Shadowing season to be short
Be what thou wouldst be nor contend
To hast through fears or hopes thin end.
