Ling-tai: He Measured Out His Spirit Tower

He measured out his spirit tower
Measured it and planned it;
All the people rushed to work
And they built it in a day.
Measured it out, saying " No hurry, "
All the people flocked like children.

The King rests in his spirit park
Where doe and stag lie about,
Doe and stag so sleek
And the white birds glisten
The King stands by his spirit pond
Where fishes leap all around.

On solid cedar H-frames, spiked,
Hang the dented ornaments:
Grand drums and bells all perfectly tuned
To the ceremony of his crescent moat.

Grand drums and bells all perfectly tuned
To the ceremony of his crescent moat:
B'ung, b'ung, lizard-skin drums —
Blind musicians make report of public event.
