A Misunderstanding

“I'm going, dear to spend the day,”
Said Mrs Grey to Peter Grey.
Then Peter 'gan to fume and foam,
And tell his wife “to stay at home”
“I only said I'd spend the day,”
Said Mrs Grey to Peter Grey.

“I'll stop you now, see if I won't,”
Said Peter Grey. His wife said “Don't”.
“Well then,” he cried, “just tell me pray,
With whom you mean to spend the day.”
“My dear,” she said, “I thought you knew
I meant to spend the day with you.”
