Monde Renverse, Le

Le Monde Renverse Jordanus Retrorsum

The Humors of This Ile turnd Topsy-Turvy
Who could but guess that All would prove but Scurvy
And As the Sea our Bullwark did defend us
We must implore the same again to mend us
Nature must not be wanting now to Showe
To Whom our Natures and our Duties owe
Though Princes Startle at this Showr of Fate
The Loyall Subject's ne're Disconsolate
But that in Peace the Empire will accrue
To Him, to Whom All Titles makes it Due
And what of Late in Civil broyls was spent
For time to come his Conduct may prevent:
Noe Paralell, Meridian, Tropick Line
But will Approve of This soe just Dessign
And from Two-fowld Emprisonments acquitt
That of an Ile and of Restraint in Itt
The Ocean's wide, Let not us straiten Hope
Ther flowes a mercy from the Horescope
May bring home Those who yet Abroad Distrest
Will make the Conquest Glorious and us blest
And from this Ile to th'Continent restore
What wrongfully had been Usurpt before
Why name we Hercules the Fablers might
Let what will come Right will ingender Right
Let us Obey not worship least Therby
We run the sensure of Idolatry
Our Romulus is lost: our Roome noe more
The Giddy Storme Us root and branch up tore
Fortune's as Wind's inconstant and may blowe
That uppermost again that now lies lowe
Wherfore let none despair: This Loss may bring
Our Hopes to Ank'rage; and that send a King.
